Dear Alpha Omega Brothers and Grads:
I am both humbled and inspired by my recent election as president of the Alpha Omega Graduate Association; humbled by the responsibility that comes with taking the reins from the great leadership we, as an association, enjoyed in the past, yet inspired by the willingness of so many graduate brothers to get involved in the operations of your AOGA, whether as members of the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and members, or serving on the Board of Chapter Advisors (BCA). A glance at the organizational chart will show many new names stepping in to help manage the affairs of the association.
As we look to the future, it is imperative that the BCA become a strong, established entity, wholly separate from the Association. The BCA will offer guidance to the undergraduate chapter and address the “people” side of the equation, while the AOGA will continue to conduct the business operations of the House Corporation, graduate relations, scholarship, fundraising, etc.
Another challenge will be the restructuring of the AOGA Board and addressing the process of succession into leadership positions. To help ensure we have a quorum to conduct necessary business, the AOGA Board has been reduced to nine positions from as many as 18. This allows us to achieve quorum with fewer members. To address specific operational areas, many committees have been established or continued, and new members are encouraged on each. Further goals include developing a program to prepare brothers to assume critical roles on the board and ensure capable leadership into the future, as well as the consideration of term limits to promote continued growth and fresh perspectives.
Now is a great time to become involved in the AOGA or BCA. If you have a desire to become involved in some way, please contact me, Director of Graduate Relations Gary Staley, or any Board member.
I look forward to a great and bright future for Alpha Omega and the AOGA.
