AOGA President's Letter

Open Letter from AOGA President

John A. Cassese '76

February, 2007

Dear Brothers,

Thanks to the efforts of the AOGA Board, and especially to David Slater '67, our association has moved forward this year with adoption of resolutions and policies to help ensure our future-both strategically and financially. The minutes of our past meetings are posted on the website, so I invite you to take a few moments to review them and see what your Board has achieved this fiscal year.

Just to give you a quick snapshot---our accomplishments include amending and enhancing ourOrganizational Restructuring Plan; the ongoing expansion and development of the Website; and adoption of a Funding Strategy for the Scholarship Endowment and Permanent Savings Funds. In addition, we have recognized the need for a long-term plan to maintain the house beyond the usual wear and tear that goes along with having more than 50 young men in residence. Further, we continue to separate the BCA function from the House Corporation function. It is, of course, easy to blur the lines between both areas of responsibility. Nevertheless, we must continue to draw a very firm line between the two and populate the BCA with Graduate Brothers who are able to travel to Athens regularly and provide needed guidance to our Undergraduate Brothers . The undergraduates must have an organization comprised of Brothers whom they can turn to for advice, counsel and direction.  The House Corporation/Graduate Association must keep its focus on the management of the house, finances, fundraising, graduate programming, and engagement of our ever-growing graduate membership.

Both entities encompass huge responsibilities that require time, dedication and commitment... Both offer unparalleled satisfaction and rewards.

This brings me to a very important observation. If I have learned anything in my short time as President, it is that this organization must have a depth of qualified, dedicated and committed brothers in order to be successful.

So that is why I am asking for your help as we move forward.

We need Brothers to volunteer to be members of the AOGA Board of Directors and the Alpha Omega Board of Chapter Advisors.  With the restructuring plan in place, and clearly outlined duties and responsibilities, we have made it possible for the duties to be shared and shouldered by many—not just one or two. Therefore, I am asking you to seriously consider becoming part of either the AOGA or the BCA. We need you. There is no other way to state it.  Pursuant to AOGA Board Resolutions adopted this year, interested Brothers must be members in good standing with Alpha Omega Chapter, The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta and Ohio University. In order to further promote graduate involvement, Brothers may no longer simultaneously serve on the Alpha Omega BCA and The Alpha Omega Graduate Association Board of Directors.

Take a few moments to review theAOGA Restructuring Plan. Is there an area of interest to you? Email  or call me with your questions. comments suggestions! I look forward to hearing from you.

And, I look forward to seeing you at Alpha Omega’s 41st Anniversary Pig Dinner on April 27th, 28th & 29th.

Fraternally,

John
