2007 Phi Gamma Delta AOGA Golf Outing

(L-R) John Hanley '90, Tim Boesken '71, Chris Moehring '74, George Promenschenkel '86,
Jack Hunter '70, Charlie Weckman '93, Bob Telloni '72, & Dave Bickell '94

On Friday, September 28, the third annual Alpha Omega Graduate Association Golf Outing returned to Cook’s Creek Golf Club. The weather could not have been better for the eight graduate brothers who traveled to Ashville, Ohio southeast of Columbus. As seems to be the rule for this event some brothers met for the first and quickly reconfirmed our common link.

Golf Master for the day, Chris Moehring ’74, chose a “shamble” format for the team competition in which each player in the foursome tees off, the best drive is chosen and then each golfer plays his own ball into the hole from there. Team scoring was 2-best ball with individual skins and Brother John Hanley '90 aka Harpo suggested adding a closest to the pin competition on the par 3’s.

Team competition pitted 70’s graduates Jack Hunter ’70, Tim Boesken ’71, Bob Telloni ’72 and Golf Master Moehring against 80/90’s brothers George Promenschenkel ’86, John Hanley ‘90, Charlie Weckman ‘93 and Dave Bickell ‘94. With little help from this writer, the veteran brothers posted a team score of nine under par. Due to their inability to make a putt, according to Team Captain Promenschenkel, the 80/90’s team could only manage a one under par round. Jack Hunter, Bob Telloni and Chris Moehring were skins winners. Hunter and Moehring also each won a closest to the pin event and Promenschenkel helped the younger brothers avoid a complete shut-out by winning a third. The fourth closest to the pin went unclaimed when none of the eight brothers playing were able to place a ball on the 113 yard par 3, 13th the shortest hole on the course!

After golf and a couple of missteps, players landed at the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant in Grove City for dinner and a wide ranging discussion of the day’s event, future events, brothers not in attendance and the current state of Alpha Omega.

A special thanks to Brother Chris Moehring with an assist from the bar maid for taking pictures.

Again brothers, we are looking for ideas on how to increase interest in this event. It is the only graduate only event that AΩGA puts on each year. Each brother who participated this year has committed to bring another brother to next year’s event. Ideas for change have ranged from moving the event around to different locations in Ohio, moving it to a Saturday and making it a weekend event with a card tournament or additional golf. Please, send any suggestions you might have to me at timboesken@fuse.net and let us know what you think.
