Major John Carroll’92, U.S. Marines

Naval Aviator, F-18 Pilot, - We salute you, Brother!

John, affectionately known around 20 South College in the late ‘80’s & early ‘90’s as “Mooch” was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps upon graduation from OU.  Following TBS Training (The Basic School), he advanced to Aviation Pre-Flight Indoctrination, Pensacola, FL; Primary Flight Training, Corpus Christy, TX (T-3); Intermediate Jet Training, Meridian, MS (T-2) and Advanced Jet Training, Kingsville, TX (T-45). Mooch was designated a Naval Aviator on January 5, 1996. Brother Carroll then selected F-18’s and upon completion of training was deployed several times to Japan & then to Guam.

In January 2003, Mooch was deployed to Operation Southern Watch which then turned into Operation Iraqi Freedom. Brother Carroll flew more than 40 sorties over hostile territory, logged over 90 hours and dropped over 50,000 lbs of ordinance, all within 30 days.

John's current 6 month deployment is in Iwakuni...Japan. John, Brooke and their daughter Reese reside in Beaufort, SC.
