The Graduate Spotlight is on...

Lt. Colonel Bill Mason '86
U.S. Army Reserve

Brother Bill Mason '86, Major,
U.S. Army Reserve

Upon graduation from OU in 1986 with a degree from the School of Journalism, Brother Mason was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.  Having served on active duty from 1986 thru 1995, Bill was well prepared when he joined the United States Army Reserve's 431st Civil Affairs Battalion in 2001.  During his active duty service, Brother Mason completed the Infantry Officer Basic & Advanced Courses, the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, the Civil Affairs Officer Advanced Course, the Public Affairs Officer Course, the Combined Arms & Services Staff School and the Command and General Staff College.

In April 2005, Brother Mason was named Commander of the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion, Knoxville, TN.  He was also selected to attend the U.S. Army War College.

In addition to his military responsibilities, Bill serves as Vice President for Memphis Metal Manufacturing Company, Inc., in Memphis, TN, where he resides with hi Fiji Sweetheart, Denise, and their three sons - William, Andrew & Patrick.

Having already served one tour in Iraq in 2003, in support of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Brother Mason recently received new orders for a second deployment to Iraq.

Not surprisingly, the same qualities & character which Bill exhibited so unequivocally back in the '80s among the Brothers serve him extraordinary well in his current leadership role.

A recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and numerous other awards and decorations, Brother Mason truly exemplifies the call for excellence and leadership among this nation's finest citizen/soldier.

In An Najaf, Iraq, March, 2003
