Jerry Winkler '90
 
Warmest congratulations to Jerry Winkler '90 who was elected to succeed John Cassese '76 as the seventh President of The Alpha Omega Graduate Association, Inc. at its Fall Board Meeting held on October 6th in Columbus, Ohio! Prior to being elected President, Jerry served on the AOGA Board of Directors as Historian for the past several years.
 
Jerry is a member of the FESPOSA Pledge Class, which is the first class to have pledged Alpha Omega Chapter following the purchase in 1986 of the chapter house at 20 South College Street.  Jerry is also the first President of AOGA, Inc. since its founding to have resided at the new house all 4 years as an undergraduate Brother.
 
A resident of Wadsworth, Ohio, Jerry was appointed Chief of the Seville-Guilford Fire & EMS Department earlier this year.  Professionally, Jerry is a member of the state of Ohio Fire Chief's Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.  Jerry also serves as an Adjunct Instructor with the Ohio Fire Academy and is also a Fire & EMS instructor with the Wayne County Schools Career Center.
 
In his spare time, Jerry's hobbies include home remodeling, photography and model trains.
 
Jerry and wife Anita, a kindegarten teacher, are parents of daughters Sydney and Millie and proud grandparents of 18 month old grandaughter, Eve.

Jon was raised in Canfield, Ohio and joined the U S Army following graduation from high school in 1985, where he served as a Military Police Officer in Alabama, South Korea, Texas and Honduras.
 
During his undergraduate years, Jon served 2 consecutive years as Chapter President and as the House Manager during his senior year.  Graduating in 1993 with a BBA in Marketing, Jon currently serves as a Property Claims Adjuster for Erie Insurance with responsibility for the 4 county area encompassing Southwest Pennsylvania and the panhandle of West Virginia.
 
Completing his 15th year in the insurance industry, Jon holds two professional designations: Associate in Loss Control Management and Associate in Claims Insurance.
 
Jon's hobbies include car collecting, college football, home remodeling and, of course, Phi Gamma Delta.

Chris Ferguson '89

 
Chris Ferguson '89 is no stranger to the AOGA Board or to most Alpha Omega Graduate Brothers.  Having previously served AOGA, Inc. as President from 1997 to 2001, and as Treasurer for many years prior to 1997, Fergie has rejoined the Executive Board in the newly-created position of Controller.
 
As Controller, Chris will oversee the online accounting system installed earlier this summer, prepare periodic financial statements and budgets and work with Treasurer Michael Ricks, our Bookkeeper, Nancy King, and our Accounts Payable and Journal Entry Clerk Dianne Reeves in Athens.
 
Chris is a former Chapter Treasurer and is presently the Division Director for Robert Half Technology in Columbus, Ohio.

Succeeding Tom Lammers '74 as General Counsel is Dan Hall '89, who practices law in Columbus, Ohio with Garvin & Hickey, LLC.  Dan joins an esteemed list of Alpha Omega Brothers who have served AOGA, Inc. in this capacity, including Mike Canter '69 and Ken Sechler '71.  Dan is a former undergraduate chapter Corresponding Secretary.
 
As an attorney, Dan specializes in workers' compensation matters and in the practice of family and probate law.  A 1993 graduate of Capital University School of Law, Dan was previously an Assistant Attorney General in the Workers Compensation Section for the state of Ohio.

Coming Soon!
In the next several weeks, we will begin the process of testing our website on its new platform, DNN.  Expected to launch on January 1, 2008, the site will have a fully integrated and unified database for administering Usernames/Passwords, Graduate Addresses and Communications and for e-commerce purposes.
 
Once fully tested, we will be issuing new Usernames and Passwords to all Alpha Omega Brothers.  Going forward you will be able to obtain a replacement password to access the site if lost or forgotten, and the same set of credentials will allow you to register and prepay for all graduate events, such as the Annual Norris Pig Dinner.

Filling out the Board of Directors for The Alpha Omega Graduate Association are outgoing President John A. Cassese '76, Charlie Weckman '93, Director of House Operations, Gary W. While John and Charlie continue to serve on the AOGA Board, though in new capacities, Gary Staley and Jeff Koch are new to the Board and to their respective portfolios.Jeff Koch '93
 
As Director of Graduate Relations, Gary will be responsible for programming activities designed to bring Alpha Omega Graduates together in a variety of venues.  Regional gatherings around the country, golf outings, trips to sporting events and group vacations are just some of the ideas that Gary envisions as part of his responsibilities.  In this capacity, Gary will also be responsible for Development and Fundraising activities.
 
You'll be hearing more from Gary about this latter program in the very near future.
 
In taking the helm of the AOGA's Scholarship Programs, Jeff will be inheriting a well developed offering of scholarships that are available to Alpha Omega Undergraduates.
 
Quarterly Scholarship Program
 
Each year, AOGA, Inc. awards scholarships to undergraduate Brothers who attain the highest quarterly grade point average each academic quarter ($250 per quarter, per recipient), and another scholarship each quarter to Brothers who maintain the highest overall accum ($100 per quarter, per recipient).  Undergraduates who attain a perfect 4.0 accum each quarter on a minimum 16 quarter hours attempted will also receive an additional $100 scholarship per quarter.
 
Freshman Scholarship Program
 
In addition to the Quarterly Scholarship Program, AOGA, Inc., in collaboration with the Alpha Omega Chapter awards each fall a Freshman Scholarship of $500 to an incoming male freshman at Ohio University.  Past recipients have included Matt DiSalvo '07, Zach Hickman '07 and Chuck Wirtz '10, all of whom pledged Alpha Omega Chapter.
 
AOGA/David F. Slater Annual Tuition Scholarships
 
Each summer, AOGA, Inc. awards one or more annual $1,000 tuition scholarships to Alpha Omega Brothers, who have demonstrated distinguished scholarship, capacity for leadership and good citizenship, as indicated by community, college and fraternal service.
 
At present, the endowed portion of the Annual Tuition Scholarship Program rests at over $120,000.  This fund is managed by the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation in Lexington, Kentucky.  Per AOGA/Scholarship Committee Policy, no more than 5% of the value of the endowed principal may be awarded annually as tuition scholarships.  This past summer, the AOGA Scholarship Commitee presented five (5) deserving undergraduate brothers with $1,000 tuition scholarships.  Since this fund was permanently endowed in 1999, over $29,000 has been awared in tuition scholarships to Alpha Omega undergraduate brothers.

AOGA 3rd Annual Golf Outing Recap
 
Over the weekend of September 28th, AOGA, Inc. held its Third Annual Golf Tournament at Cook's Creek Golf Club, just south of Columbus, Ohio.
 
Organized again this year by Alpha Omega Graduate Brother Tim Boesken '71, brothers from around the state of Ohio convened for a day of golf, brotherhood and refreshment.

Set to the popular Rod Stewart song "Forever Young" as background music, Alpha Omega Chapter debuted its Recruitment Video for Fall 2007 Rush Week at Ohio University several weeks ago.

Created by Filmography Major and Alpha Omega Undergraduate Brother Chris Noonan '09, the video contains several vignettes of Alpha Omega Brothers describing their experiences as Phi Gams.  Included in the video are Brothers Chris Hess '08, Burke Howard '09, AJ Rohan '09, Ryan Basford '07 and numerous photographs of undergraduate and graduate Brothers in Alpha Omega Chapter.
 
Over the past several years, the IFC at Ohio University has modified the Fall Recruitment process in an effort to provide a "level playing field" for all fraternities and sororities on campus.  Part of this process has included presentations by each Greek Unit on the Sunday prior to the start of rush at the Baker University Center to individuals who have formally registered.  The video was utilized this year by Alpha Omega in its quest for its Fall 2007 Pledge Class.

Created by Filmography Major and Alpha Omega Undergraduate Brother Chris Noonan '09, the video contains several vignettes of Alpha Omega Brothers describing their experiences as Phi Gams.  Included in the video are Brothers Chris Hess '08, Burke Howard '09, AJ Rohan '09, Ryan Basford '07 and numerous photographs of undergraduate and graduate Brothers in Alpha Omega Chapter.
 
Over the past several years, the IFC at Ohio University has modified the Fall Recruitment process in an effort to provide a "level playing field" for all fraternities and sororities on campus.  Part of this process has included presentations by each Greek Unit on the Sunday prior to the start of rush at the Baker University Center to individuals who have formally registered.  The video was utilized this year by Alpha Omega in its quest for its Fall 2007 Pledge Class.
