2007 Pig Dinner Recap

Symposiarch Nathan Boston '03
Over the weekend of April 27, 28 & 29, 2007, over 80 Alpha Omega Graduate Brothers returned to Athens, Ohio to participate in Alpha Omega's 41st Anniversary Norris Pig Dinner. As in prior years, a golf outing was scheduled for Brothers making their way from Columbus to Athens. Chaired by Chris Moehring '74, Brothers played at Pine Hill Golf Course in Carroll, Ohio.
In late afternoon, Head Chef Janet Smith began preparations for the Friday BBQ, cooking hundreds of hotdogs and hamburgers and setting up the dining room to accommodate Brothers returning for the weekend. Operating in her traditional efficient manner, tables turned over on a regular basis as everyone took turns filling their plates with food and catching up with Brothers seated at their table.
Following dinner, Undergraduate and Graduate Brothers headed uptown or down to the Ohio University Inn for socializing and to become acquainted with Alpha Omega's newest Brothers and Pledges.
Early Saturday morning, over 40 individuals headed to the Ohio University Golf Course to participate in the First Annual Kace Memorial Golf Tournament (see story below). Late Saturday morning, golfers and Brothers headed to the FIJI House for a buffet lunch. Once again, Janet produced a sumptuous cold cut and salad buffet lunch for those in attendance.
Immediately following lunch, everyone headed outside to the front patio to participate in the dedication ceremony for the Kace Memorial Bench (see story below, right).
At approximately 2:00 p.m. President John Cassese called to order the Annual Meeting of The Alpha Omega Graduate Association, Inc. at the new Baker University Center. After introductions, the business session consisted of a review of events for the past year along with a discussion of the strategic plan adopted in February 2006. Elections were held and the meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
This year, Pig Dinner was held at the Rotunda of Margaret Walter Hall on the West Green as over 170 Brothers and Guests assembled for the annual gathering. A silent auction was held at 6:00 p.m. during the cocktail hour to raise additional funds for the Kace Scholarship (see article below). Pig Dinner formally began at 7:00 p.m. with Symposiarch Nathan Boston '03 introducing the Head Table and asking Joe Willaman '07 to lead those assembled in the singing of "Doxology" and "A Toast To Our Fraternity."
"A Toast To Our Fraternity"
While awaiting dinner to be served, the audience was treated to a surprise viewing of Alpha Omega Chapter's new Rush Video, produced and directed by Alpha Omega Brother and OU Filmography Major Chris Noonan '09. Featuring vignettes and testimonials of several current Alpha Omega Undergraduate Brothers, the video is 5 minutes in duration and provides a thorough and "upbeat" view of Brotherhood at Alpha Omega of Phi Gamma Delta. (We expect to post the video on the website in early Fall 2007.)
Throughout and following dinner numerous presentations and reports were made including:
· Recitation of An Exile's Toast by Ron Sages '73
· Kace Memorial Golf Tournament autographed photograph presented to the Kace Family (Charley, Jr., Lynn and Charlie, III '02) presented by Tony Albanese '06
