2006 Scholarship Award

Alpha Omega Chapter Honored at OU President's Residence

During Spring Quarter, 2006, Alpha Omega Brothers were invited to Ohio U President Roderick McDavis's residence to be honored for their academic excellence!


Finishing first among fraternities on campus during Winter Quarter with a 2.986 g.p.a. overall (actives & pledges), Alpha Omega Chapter has completed fourteen (14) consecutive years above the "All Men's Average."

Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation Awards 17 AAA Scholarships to Alpha Omega Brothers

The Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation presents a significant number of undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships annually to Brothers throughout the United States and Canada. One of its most popular scholarship programs is theAcademic Achievement Award or "AAA" Scholarship.

The AAA Scholarship Program awards a $250 scholarship to any Brother who achieves a 3.0 accum or higher during the academic semester/quarter of their pledgeship. Since the founding of this program in 1999, over ninety (90) AAA Scholarships have been awarded to Alpha Omega Brothers, aggregating $22,000!!

Newly initiated Brothers into Phi Gamma Delta have asix (6) month window to submit their application and grade report to The Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation. For convenience, the Alpha Omega Chapter Website contains a direct link to the
AAA Scholarship Application Form, which can be downloaded, completed and submitted.

During the 2005-06 academic year, seventeen (17) Alpha Omega Brothers qualified as AAA Scholarship Award Recipients.

2nd Annual AOGA Golf Outing Scheduled

Mark your calendars for Friday, September 22, 2006 as the 2nd Annual AOGA Golf Outing will be held at Cook's Creek Golf Club in Ashville, Ohio.

2007 Alpha Omega Norris Pig Dinner Scheduled


While still eight (8) months away, plans are now underway for Alpha Omega's 2007 Pig Dinner. Scheduled for the weekend of April 27, 28 & 29, 2007, a block of rooms has been reserved under "Phi Gamma Delta" at The Ohio University Inn.

Tentatively, the new Ohio University Student Union will open on January 1, 2007 and we are hopeful that we will be able to be one of the first organizations to experience firsthand this new location.

Mark your calendars now and give the "Inn" a call at 740-593-6661 to make those room reservations.

$500 Freshman Scholarship to be offered again this year!

Once again this Fall, The Alpha Omega Graduate Association, Inc. is offering a $500 scholarship to an incoming male member of the 2006 Freshman Class at Ohio University. First launched in the 1980s, the Freshman Scholarship Award recognizes and rewards outstanding academic achievement during the high school years.

Past recipients of the award have included Alpha Omega Brothers Matt DiSalvo '07 and Zach Hickman '07.

As the summer of 2006 draws to a close, we'd like to update you on what has been happening over the past several months since the conclusion of our 40th Anniversary Pig Dinner and the end of the 2005-06 academic year.

Many Brothers have been busy ensuring that the house is fully rented, cleaned and ready to go in just several weeks.....

Others have been reviewing scholarship applications and making tough decisions.....

While still others have been participating in Phi Gamma Delta's Legislative process, known as the Ekklesia, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.....

Plans are underway for a chapter retreat shortly after Ohio U commences its fall quarter.....Rush begins in a few weeks.....and we'll be welcoming new Pledges into our midst shortly..... Pledges who will witness a most significant life-changing experience.....

If you want to be part of the excitement and volunteer for the BCA or House Corporation, just say the word as we are seeking assistance in several areas......

  • In Memoriam - Jeffrey T. Kace '05 (1983 - 2006)

    Jeff Kace '05

    It is with profound sadness that we are reporting the sudden passing of Alpha Omega Graduate Brother Jeff Kace '05 on August 15, 2006.

    Born on March 23, 1983 in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Jeff was employed as a Corporate Recruiter for Aerotek Corporation in Burlington, Massachusetts. As a student at Ohio University, Jeff played on the Lacrosse Team and pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, graduating in 2005.

    Jeff pledged Alpha Omega Chapter in Fall 2001, and was elected Recording Secretary in 2003-2004, serving on the Executive Committee with Tony Albanese '06 (Chapter President), Michael Ricks, II '05 (Treasurer), Paul Doseck '05 (Corresponding Secretary) and Adam Hinkley '05 (Historian).

    Jeff is survived by his parents, Charles and Lynn of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and Alpha Omega Brother Charlie Kace '02, of Boston, Massachusetts.

    Our heartfelt sympathies are extended to the Kace Family and all of his Alpha Omega Brothers.

    A Memorial Tribute to Jeff has been established on the website and can be viewed by clicking the link below.

  • Alpha Omega Tuition Scholarship Recipients Announced

    2006 Scholarship Recipients

    Each year, over the summer, The Alpha Omega Graduate Association Scholarship Selection Committee reviews many scholarship applications from Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers. Established in 1999, twenty four (24) $1,000 Scholarships have now been awarded to Alpha Omega Brothers demonstrating academic excellence!

    In the spring, Brothers can download an application from the Alpha Omega Chapter Website, Scholarship Section, for completion. The completed application, letters of reference and a current, comprehensive individual grade report from Ohio U are submitted to the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation not later than May 30. Shortly afterward, all applications are sent to AOGA's Scholarship Chairman, Dan Schiavoni '03, for distribution to the Scholarship Selection Committee. The Scholarship Selection Committee "meets" by email and each member submits his recommendations to the Scholarship Chair. Within several weeks, a decision is made and funds are disbursed in time to meet Fall Quarter Payment Due Dates.

    We are pleased to announce that this year's AOGA Tuition Scholarship Recipients are Sean Failla '07 and Zach Hickman '07 (pictured above). Sean is enrolled in the College of Business and plans to pursue a Certified Public Accountant Designation upon graduation. Zach is studying Biology and is on a Pre- Dental academic path. Both Sean and Zach are former Chapter Officers and have each received numerous academic awards during their Ohio University careers.

  • Alpha Omega Tuition Scholarship Endowment Nearing $100,000 Goal!

    Alpha Omega's Tuition Scholarship Endowment is nearing its goal of $100,000! Established in 1993, the fund reached permanent endowment level status ($25,000) in 1999 and began disbursing $1,000 scholarships to Alpha Omega Brothers. As of mid August, contributions to the permanent endowment stand at $86,067!

    Please consider making a contribution during this 40th Anniversary Year to one of Alpha Omega' most enduring programs. Brothers who have made cumulative contributions of $500 or more automatically become members of the AOGA Tuition Scholarship Selection Committee. More than $11,330 has been contributed since January 1, 2006!

    Please make your check out to: The Phi Gamma Educational Foundation and be sure to write "Ohio University Chapter" in the memo portion of the check. Contributions should be sent to: The Phi Gamma Educational Foundation, 1201 Red Mile Road, PO Box 4599, Lexington, KY 40544-4599.

  • Chapter House Kitchen Equipment Updates Scheduled

    The Kitchen (pictured right) at 20 South College Street is undergoing a bit of updating this summer in an effort to comply with updated Ohio University regulations and to improve the efficiency in food preparation.

    Slated for replacement are the oven, stove, grill, freezer and refrigerator.

  • Brothers Attend 158th Ekklesia in Minneapolis, Minnesota

    158th Ekklesia Logo

    The 158th Ekklesia was held August 10 - 13, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    Over the four (4) day period, Brothers in Phi Gamma Delta met to receive updates on the operation of the Fraternity, consider By Law Amendments, adopt an operating budget for the next biennium and to elect a new Archonate to lead the Fraternity until August 2008.

    One of the great highlights of the Ekklesia was the election of our own Brother Ron Sages ’73 as Archon Treasurer of the International Fraternity. What a proud day for Ron and for Alpha Omega Chapter!

  • Zach Hickman '07 Receives Ohio U "Unsung Hero Award"

    Zach Hickman '07 & Brothers

    We are pleased to announce that Zach Hickman '07 (pictured right, 2nd from right, with Brothers Jared Conrad '09, Jamie Rudd '09, & Tim Ratcliff '09) received the "Unsung Hero Award" at the Order of Omega Greek Awards Banquet this past spring quarter. Awarded annually, it is given to a member of the Ohio University Greek Community who is deemed to have played a major leadership role in a "behind the scenes" manner.

    During 2005-06, Zach served Alpha Omega Chapter as Corresponding Secretary, where he handled the Chapter's public relations effort and worked as part of the website development team. Zach has also been heavily involved in the Athens Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, mentoring an elementary school student.

    Zach served as Greek Week Chair this past spring quarter, in which Alpha Omega took 2nd Place overall, and was a recipient of the Alpha Omega Freshman Scholarship Award in 2004. Zach has been named to the Dean's List on many occasions and is a 2006 recipient of one of the Alpha Omega Tuition Scholarship Awards.

    Zach hopes to attend Dental School upon graduation from Ohio University Spring Quarter 2007.

    Over the four (4) day period, Brothers in Phi Gamma Delta met to receive updates on the operation of the Fraternity, consider By Law Amendments, adopt an operating budget for the next biennium and to elect a new Archonate to lead the Fraternity until August 2008.

    One of the great highlights of the Ekklesia was the election of our own Brother Ron Sages ’73 as Archon Treasurer of the International Fraternity. What a proud day for Ron and for Alpha Omega Chapter!

  • Zach Hickman '07 Receives Ohio U "Unsung Hero Award"

    Zach Hickman '07 & Brothers

    We are pleased to announce that Zach Hickman '07 (pictured right, 2nd from right, with Brothers Jared Conrad '09, Jamie Rudd '09, & Tim Ratcliff '09) received the "Unsung Hero Award" at the Order of Omega Greek Awards Banquet this past spring quarter. Awarded annually, it is given to a member of the Ohio University Greek Community who is deemed to have played a major leadership role in a "behind the scenes" manner.

    During 2005-06, Zach served Alpha Omega Chapter as Corresponding Secretary, where he handled the Chapter's public relations effort and worked as part of the website development team. Zach has also been heavily involved in the Athens Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, mentoring an elementary school student.

    Zach served as Greek Week Chair this past spring quarter, in which Alpha Omega took 2nd Place overall, and was a recipient of the Alpha Omega Freshman Scholarship Award in 2004. Zach has been named to the Dean's List on many occasions and is a 2006 recipient of one of the Alpha Omega Tuition Scholarship Awards.

    Zach hopes to attend Dental School upon graduation from Ohio University Spring Quarter 2007.
